David Thornton Obituary – David Thornton, age 87, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2007, at Genesys Hospice. Thornton was born June 27, 1920, in Decatur, Mississippi to Doyle and Flossie Thornton. On November 7, 1942, David joined together in holy matrimony to Bettie Mae Huddleston.

They celebrated 60 happy years together. David served in the United States Army during World War II and received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant in 1946. He worked as a bricklayer in Jackson, Mississippi until 1966, when he moved with his family to Flint.

Mr. Thornton was a dedicated member of St. Peter C.M.E. Church for over 40 years where he served on the Steward Board as President, Senior Choir, and Building Fund Committee for the structure at 771 East Pierson Road and was co-organizer of the Cub and Boy Scouting Program.

He retired from Chevrolet Metal Fabricating Plant, Local #659 in 1985. Mr. Thornton enjoyed his daily visits with all his friends at the Hasselbring Community Center where he remained active until his failing health. Click here for more.
